Babes Supporting Babes

Babes Supporting Babes

YEG Cycle has become a hub for Bikergang to meet up with old friends and to meet new friends. Our studio is a special place in which the community can help inspire and lift each other up so we can each strongly face our daily lives.

Our community is filled with some pretty spectacular best friend duos. We reached out to YEG Cycle’s Boss Babes, Kim Gingerich and Margot Jackson, to ask them a few questions. These strong, inspiring women shared heartwarming details about their friendship and how they keep it solid and supportive. Check out these babes supporting babes!

"Here's to strong women may we know them. May we be them. May we raise them."

Introduce yourself! Where are you from? What is your occupation?

Margot:

I grew up in Edmonton but moved away for many years and lived in Israel, Toronto, Vancouver San Francisco, and Calgary. I am an Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta where I teach and do research in the area of child and youth mental health as well as homeless youth and socially vulnerable populations.

Kim:

My name is Kim Gingerich and I am 45 years old! I have lived in Edmonton my entire life with the exception of one year, where my husband and I moved to Grand Cayman and lived on the beach! I have two great kids, Sebastian, 16, and Ava, 14, and a handful of wonderful and fantastic friends--Margot being one of my most favourite!

How and when did you become friends?

Kim:

Margot and I met over seven years ago while our daughters trained in gymnastics together. We instantly bonded as we complained and whined and supported each other while we traveled around to the smallest and most hick cities Canada has to offer. We have always shared a love of fitness and found ourselves meeting in the basement gyms of some questionable hotels, while on the road for gymnastics.

What’s one of your favourite memories of your friendship?

Margot:

My favourite memories of Kim are spending summers together in Vernon BC while our girls were at gymnastics camp and just hanging out at Kim's house drinking prosecco and laughing!

Tell us about a time when you leaned on one another.

Margot:

I have had a very difficult few years with many personal changes and Kim has been there for me every step of the way. I have cried to her many times and she always is there to listen and support me.

Kim:

Margot is truly a wonderful friend and has always been a lending ear when I have needed it. She puts up with me and has a truly sensitive and caring nature. What would I do without her!!!

What’s your favourite thing to do together?

Margot:

We both love being active, travelling, and spending time just hanging and chatting... that is the best, really.

Kim:

Margot and I realized that we both loved spin over a year ago and I have tried to keep up with her ever since!!!

What’s the secret to maintaining a strong and supportive friendship?

Margot:

I think the key to having a real and true friendship is making time for each other no matter what.  It is about feeling safe enough to open up to each other without any fear of being judged. You can just be who you are and know that you will be accepted and loved.

When can we see this duo in action at the studio?

Kim:

I love when we meet for noon spin classes and I am finding myself gravitating to the front row so that I can spin next to her!!! Thanks, YEG Cycle for helping us keep our friendship sweet and sweaty!!!!
